A beautiful nice little island which you should have seen when you are visiting the Steinhuder Meer. It takes a short boattrip from Steinhude oder Mardorf to get to the island. The skipper will tell you some facts and stories about the island its self and all the small little things which happened here. For example was one of the officers, fighting against Napoleon, educated here. That abakut three hundred years ago but you can still visit the castle and walk on historical steps The rooms are small but cozy. Clean and, especially in hot summers, quit chilly. We loved it there. After 18:30 the island gets empty as all tourists who do not sleep in one of the 6 rooms, will have to catch the last ferry. After that the island is more or less yours! The sunset is breathtaking and the little dinner the, serve is delicious. So, if you want to calm down and have a brilliant stay on "your", island : defnitly go there! Travel times etc. Can be found in the picture gallery

After we shared our experiences with management a few weeks ago and there was no response, we are giving our assessment openly: This was our third time staying overnight at Wilhelmstein. We only live about 15 minutes away by car, but it is Something very special for us, this overnight stay. We treat ourselves to these once a year instead of giving each other presents at Christmas. Like every time, we are traveling to the island with the expat and are really looking forward to our stay. When we got there, we asked if we could move into our room. A young man says he is not authorized to do that and will inquire. After asking in the neighboring house, he tells us: Rooms are not available until 3 p.m. That could actually have been phrased in a friendlier way and we remembered her wife, who welcomed us two years ago and said to us first: Welcome to the island, now you can relax. Explore the island, we will prepare everything for you. We went back to the kiosk at 3 p.m. A young lady was waiting for us there and took us to the room. On the way there, I told her that the machines in the parking lot at the fairgrounds were broken and whether I would still have to pay the fees via the app and that we stood in the parking lot a bit at a loss. When I asked whether a message to the guests wouldn't make sense, she replied briefly and succinctly: She had no influence on that. My husband told her that we had a bit of bad luck on our last visit because we had small children staying in the house and whether that was the case this time would that also be the case? Her answer: She had no influence on that Her last comment was: The restaurant opens at 5:30 p.m. and we have to be there by 7 p.m. at the latest. So now we sat in our room and looked at each other. Was this our little break from everyday life that we were so looking forward to? We were at the restaurant promptly at 5:30 p.m. and the young lady came to our table: croquettes (both types) were out. The next low blow that hit. Unfortunately, we also found that the food wasn't as good as we've had in the past two years. Here in particular the braised beef, the meat was quite firm and there was almost no sauce However, we really enjoyed the dessert (Pasteis de Nata)!!! For the last two years there was an extremely friendly, personable older lady at breakfast who was there for the guests. This year was one young employee on site who was very reserved and reacted rather than acted. But at least she was friendly and tried hard. Mr. Weppler, we know that it is very difficult to find staff and we also realize that you cannot be there every weekend. But for the price we now have to pay to stay overnight, we were very disappointed with the service and probably won't be back.

We had booked two rooms for one night with a couple who were friends of ours. Both bathrooms were very small and not in good condition. Mold in and outside the shower area. Shower water wouldn't drain and flooded the rest of the floor. Pillows were very hard...but that's definitely a matter of taste. The restaurant was also a disappointment. In summary, one has to say that the website gave rise to much more expectations. The price/performance ratio for both the room and the restaurant doesn't fit at all. To end this review on a positive note, I would like to highlight the great breakfast and the two very lovely older gentlemen who were responsible for it.

The two of us stayed on the island for two nights at the beginning of June. First of all: great location. When the weather is nice, sit at the front of the water, look at the water... with a delicious drink: wonderful. Quiet. Relaxing. The rest would be good for an anecdote. The misery began with the reservation and arrival: there was no indication from the friendly employee that the large parking lot had been out of operation for three weeks, which meant that almost no ticket machine was intact. Logically, we needed a multi-day ticket to park the car. Nobody could be reached in the hotel for a long time. We wandered around alone in this parking lot for over an hour, and it's big. The nice lady at the tourist information helped us. Thank you for that. The hotel and the rooms: We had the number 1. The bathroom with shower was more than cramped...hardly manageable for people who are a bit fuller. Otherwise nicely furnished. The restaurant was not accessible one evening because of a performance because we as hotel guests did not want to take part. So we ate outside. No problem in this weather. We had the tapas, but they were snack quality and really poor value for money for the quality. The highlight of the day, however, was that we were given the wrong time at the port for the last return trip and not a single information was given from the hotel that it was on our radar that we could only get to the island until 3:30 p.m. So we stood in front of the closed pier door in Steinhude at around 5 p.m. and didn't see a soul in the hotel until a nice man came in with the last boat and asked us where we wanted to go. He also tried his contacts directly to the hotel including his private number. On the last crossing he was even told that all the island guests were there. That wasn't funny anymore. After many phone calls and really nice people trying to find a solution, a nice captain rescued us and took us to the island. The service the next morning didn't pay attention to our complaints at all. No accommodation, completely overwhelmed by the criticism. Above all....now here it comes....inside, my niece heard a man in the restaurant saying that Bernd and whoever had called several times last night, but he didn't answer. Yes, that was us in Steinhude at the harbor and the captains. The hotel said that they don't have boats and had nothing to do with this and that it's not their problem. But the man at the harbor said that they actually had 2 electric boats. Oh well. Finally...breakfast was surprisingly good. So for a resort in this price range, I expect criticism from guests to be dealt with professionally, as the whole thing isn't exactly cheap. And above all, I can't talk myself out of it and say that I have nothing to do with the boats. The vacation started off unhappy and stressful when we wandered around the parking lot for an hour trying to get a ticket. That's not possible, you can tell 10 guests that when making the reservation or by email before arrival. Poor communication or simply lack of interest. Who knows. So we might go to Steinhude again and over to the island, but we definitely won't stay at the resort again, it was too bad and too expensive and just not hospitable. The young waiter who brought us the tapas was very nice.

We had a wonderful romantic stay here. The trip begins with a half-hour trip on a smaller boat and during the trip the island gets closer and closer and the stress of everyday life remains on the shore. We were greeted very friendly in the restaurant and were immediately shown the beautiful room in one of the guest houses and explained everything about the organization. When you book your room, a table at Porto Lago is automatically reserved for overnight guests, so that no one has to starve if they haven't thought of it themselves. We found our room particularly nice because two of its windows had a view of the lake and through the third we could see the fortress. The room was tastefully and practically furnished for us. The bathroom is a bit small and we found the sink a bit bulky in comparison, but that's just a minor flaw and a matter of taste. What we both didn't like at all were the extremely hard pillows. Unfortunately, we only noticed this when we went to bed and unfortunately there was no alternative in the room. Otherwise we found the stay for one night really nice. The silence when the last guests of the day have left the island, the really excellent food at Porto Lago, the beautiful green island with many different seating options and views and the really excellent service from every single employee. An oasis in these hectic times

Where can you spend an exclusive night on a small island? Here! The location is breathtaking and everything is very loving: details (curtain rods made from old boat masts, etc.) give an unmistakable character! The restaurant is also very good and the staff is very friendly! Tom and his team are serious about taking this old getaway spot to a new level! We were passing through here with our two children (4/8 years) and will definitely come back again!

We booked a double room for one night including breakfast for 210 euros. The location is sensational, the restaurant is recommended. The room was very nicely designed, the mattresses were very good! The tiny bathroom/toilet alone with around 1.5 m2 and very limited storage space, especially a shower that requires acrobatic skills to enter, justify a points deduction - at least for this overnight price. We still had to put in a stool. Unfortunately, the hotel reception could not be reached despite repeated telephone calls several days in advance, and various email inquiries had not been responded to (until today!)! Our question as to whether a later check-in was possible remained unanswered. We then took the last ship of the line with a queasy feeling.
